The term used when the pith (soft core occurring in the structural center of wood) falls entirely within the four faces of a piece of wood anywhere in its length.
"Art is both love and understanding, the desire to give. It is not charity, which is the giving of the self. It is both the taking and giving of beauty, the turning out to the light the inner folds of the awareness of the spirit. It is the recreation of another plane of the realities of the world, the tragic and wonderful realities of earth and man and all the interrelations of these."
Written by Ansel Adams in a letter to his best friend, Cedric Wright in 1937
